Harry Potter is something of a rite of passage for many millennials. Maybe you waited in line until the midnight hour when you could snatch up the latest release. Or maybe you harangued your significant other into seeing the movies with you in theaters. Or, if you’re anything like me, you went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them at least three times in theaters (I might have gone four…). This year, we will also see a new version of the popular book The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
Although the core books stopped several years ago, we now anxiously await the gorgeous illustrated editions that now appear annually. Rowling has graced us with illustrated editions of The Philosopher’s Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This year, Bloomsbury UK will release a pictured version of The Tales of Beedle the Bard (see this article for some revealed artwork!).
The Tales of Beedle the Bard is a collection of short stories referenced in The Deathly Hallows and plays an integral role in the book. It includes the Tale of the Three Brothers – this story directly referenced and paralleled Harry’s journey as he discovered the truth of the Deathly Hallows and how they impacted his own and wizarding history. Luna Lovegood’s father Theophilius regaled Harry, Ron, and Hermione with the tale.
The first edition was published in 2008; the new edition comes out on October 9th. Chris Riddell (no relation to a similarly-named Tom Riddle) is listed as the illustrator. Make sure to pick this up! The illustrations will reel you in!
